Tenure Track Position in Theoretical Cosmology or Particle Astrophysics

The Department of Physics invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in theoretical cosmology or particle astrophysics. The department currently has strong programs spanning cosmology and particle physics, with theoretical, experimental and computational components. We expect the successful applicant to have interests that overlap with and complement these ongoing research efforts. Applicants should have a clear record of research accomplishments and a strong interest and ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Tenure Track Position in Experimental Condensed Matter or Biological Physics

The Department of Physics invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in experimental condensed matter or biological physics, with preference for those with research interests that overlap and complement current research at Syracuse (cf. quantum computing, membrane biophysics, superconducting and photovoltaic devices, biophotonics, soft condensed matter physics); descriptions of some of this research may be found at http://physics.syr.edu/research.htm .A Ph.D. in physics or a related field is required. Two-years of post-doctoral research and college-level teaching experience are desirable. Tenure Track Position in Experimental Gravitational Wave Physics

The Department of Physics invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in experimental gravitational wave physics. The department currently has a strong research group associated with LIGO (led by Profs. Duncan Brown and Peter Saulson), with emphasis on data analysis and astrophysics. The successful candidate will interact well with these research efforts, while carrying out a strong and broad program of gravitational wave detector development. 2 Postdoctoral Positions in Condensed Matter Theory

The Condensed Matter Theory (CMT) group of Syracuse University invites applicatons for two post-doc positions beginning January 2009, though the start date is flexible.

One post-doc will join the Syracuse group of five faculty members: Mark Bowick, Cristina Marchetti, Alan Middleton, Jen Schwarz and Xiangjun (Sean) Xing, with research interests encompassing correlated percolation, spin glasses, membranes, order and geometry, statistical mechanics and computational complexity, elasticity and plasticity theory, biological phyiscs and jamming. The second post-doc will join an international collaboration between Cristina Marchetti, Tannie Liverpool (Bristol, UK) and Kristian Mueller-Nedebock (Stellenbosch, South Africa) on active gels and liquids. This position will entail spending substential time in the UK.

Postdoctoral Position in Theoretical Particle Physics

The Particle Physics group (High Energy Theory) of the Physics Department expects to have at least one opening for a postdoctoral research associate beginning in September 2009.

The group members-A.P. Balachandran, Simon Catterall, Jay Hubisz, Carl Rosenzweig, Joseph Schechter and Kameshwar Wali have broad interests spanning theoretical, phenomenological and computational high energy physics. The department especially encourages applicants with interests focusing on particle and collider phenomenology in the LHC area.

Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Biophysics

    A postdoctoral position in experimental biophysics is available in the group of Professor Martin B. Forstner at Syracuse University. The scientific efforts of our group are aimed at elucidating the physical and chemical principles that govern organization and biological function of biomembranes and their constituents. Our research encompasses both in vivo studies in live cells as well as in vitro investigations in model membrane systems. An additional focus of the group is the use and development of optical single-molecule techniques. The multidisciplinary character of our lab is well suited for applicants with a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or related fields, who are highly motivated to learn and apply new techniques and methods from a broad array of scientific disciplines.

Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics

    Postdoctoral research associate positions are available in the Physics Departments at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and Syracuse University to work on a new project to develop quantum-limited measurement tools for experiments probing quantum entanglement with superconducting circuits. Experience in any of the following areas is desired: low temperature experimental techniques including dilution refrigerator operation and maintenance, microfabrication, microwave engineering, quantum information. The positions are available to start in the first half of 2009.
