Tenure Track Position in Theoretical Cosmology or Particle Astrophysics
The Department of Physics invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in theoretical cosmology or particle astrophysics. The department currently has strong programs spanning cosmology and particle physics, with theoretical, experimental and computational components. We expect the successful applicant to have interests that overlap with and complement these ongoing research efforts. Applicants should have a clear record of research accomplishments and a strong interest and ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Candidates should visit http://www.sujobopps.com, search for Assistant Professor/Physics (job #024592), and apply electronically. All applications require a CV which includes both research and teaching statements, and a list of three or four professional references. If you have any questions please contact facultysearch@phy.syr.edu. In addition, three letters of recommendation should be forwarded to facultysearch@phy.syr.edu or mailed to: Cosmology Search Committee Review of applications will begin December 1, 2008, and will continue until the position is filled. Syracuse University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. Members of minority groups and women are especially encouraged to apply.

2 Postdoctoral Positions in Condensed Matter Theory
The Condensed Matter Theory (CMT) group of Syracuse University invites applicatons for two post-doc positions beginning January 2009, though the start date is flexible. One post-doc will join the Syracuse group of five faculty members: Mark Bowick, Cristina Marchetti, Alan Middleton, Jen Schwarz and Xiangjun (Sean) Xing, with research interests encompassing correlated percolation, spin glasses, membranes, order and geometry, statistical mechanics and computational complexity, elasticity and plasticity theory, biological phyiscs and jamming. For details see physics.syr.edu/research/condensed_matter/. The second post-doc will join an international collaboration between Cristina Marchetti, Tannie Liverpool (Bristol, UK) and Kristian Mueller-Nedebock (Stellenbosch, South Africa) on active gels and liquids. This position will entail spending substential time in the UK. For either positioin, applications with CV, research statement and three letters of reference should be sent to CMTpostdoc@physics.syr.edu or to

Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Biophysics
A postdoctoral position in experimental biophysics is available in the group of Professor Martin B. Forstner at Syracuse University. The scientific efforts of our group are aimed at elucidating the physical and chemical principles that govern organization and biological function of biomembranes and their constituents. Our research encompasses both in vivo studies in live cells as well as in vitro investigations in model membrane systems. An additional focus of the group is the use and development of optical single-molecule techniques. The multidisciplinary character of our lab is well suited for applicants with a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or related fields, who are highly motivated to learn and apply new techniques and methods from a broad array of scientific disciplines. To apply please email your letter of intend, your CV and arrange to have three letters of reference sent to mbforstn@syr.edu. For further information please see also our web-site at http://physics.syr.edu/~mbforstn/. Syracuse University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. Members of minority groups and women are especially encouraged to apply.
